Zooey and Joe want to know ‘What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?’

Amidst the hordes of 2011 Best-of/Worst-of compilations and booze hording that typically tend to go down in the final days of any year, I think it’s important to stop and smell the roses, as it were. I’m sure I’m probably not speaking out of turn if I said that this year was tough on everybody. Even our normal avenue of escapism (the movies) was cluttered with the carcasses of yawn-inducing flicks that ranged from ‘not bad’ to ‘dear God!’ That being said, when you run across little treasures like this one, it’s hard not to smile.

On her website HelloGiggles, Zooey Deschanel posted syrupy sweet cover of Nancy Wilson’s ‘What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?’ along with her (500) Days of Summer co-star, Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Make sure to have your insulin handy before you watch it.

Despite the fact that these two have only been in two movies together and only one as boyfriend and girlfriend, it’s amazing how much onscreen chemistry these two have. Just watch this 500 Days of Summer bonus clip if you don’t believe me.

They make me think back to the days of the effortless rom-coms of Rock Hudson and Doris Day (well maybe not that far but I have seen the movies) and even the undeniable chemistry of my generation’s best screen couples Sarrymore (The Wedding Singer, 50 First Dates), Brangelina (Mr. & Mrs. Smith) or McGosling (The Notebook).  Deschanel’s introduction for the clip was just as adorable—

“I have known Joe Gordon-Levitt for going on 12 years….and I have been lucky enough to call him one of my dearest friends ever since. I hope to do a thousand more movies with him because he’s simply the best.”

Deschanel will be back on TV with ‘New Girl’ on January 17th and Gordon-Levitt can be seen in theatres next summer in “The Dark Knight Rises” and “Premium Rush.”
